World Bach Fest 2012 a Firenze

An event organized on Facebook, by the iniziative of the group “Friend of Johann Sebastian Bach”, created by Mario Ruffini and wanted by Ramin Bahrami, and so is born the first World Bach Fest that will take place in Florence from 9th to 11th march 2012.

From Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, to Salone dei Cinquecento at Palazzo Vecchio, to Cinema Teatro Odeon, the notes of Bach will resound for three exciting days.

The festival, sponsored by the city of Florence and by the Tuscany region, will be opened at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with three concerts conducted by Mario Ruffini and interpreted by one of the greatest performers of Bach: Ramin Bahrami, who will be the protagonist along this three days of non-stop music.

Inside the Salone dei Cinquecento will can attend to 48 hours of non-stop music where will play soloists, groups and orchestras that will resound through all Florence.

In addition to the musical event, at the Cinema Teatro Odeon will be screened  some short films dedicated to Bach and selected by a jury and, among these, the winner will be screened in the closing night of the World Bach Fest, Sunday afternoon 11th march 2012. Then there will a season of films dedicated to the German genius (in original version with English subtitles).

“I Promessi Sposi – Opera moderna” on stage at Teatro Verdi of Florence

I Promessi Sposi - Opera moderna al Teatro Verdi di Firenze

The 2011-2012 season of the Teatro Verdi of Florence is full of great events. From 24th to 26th February 2012 will be on stage “I Promessi Sposi – Opera moderna”, inspired by the famous novel of Alessandro Manzoni, directed by Michele Guardì and with the music of Pippo Flora.

“I Promessi Sposi- Opera moderna” are obtaining a great success, and reached the second edition, have been some changes to the cast and to the choreography. The choreography, completely renewed by Martino Muller, have donated more rhythm, dynamics and energy to the play.

The story of the play is been revisited in a modern key, halfway between the musical and the rock opera (Guardì speaks of modern opera in this meaning).

The two protagonists Renzo and Lucia are on the point of wedding, but are hampered by Don Rodrigo who wants take over of Lucia.

From here begin the misadventures of the betrothed, ma are forced to abandon the “village” where they live to hide away: Renzo in Milan and Lucia to the convent of Monza.

A large epidemic of plague strikes Renzo, that is able to cure unlike Don Rodrigo.

At the end Renzo and Lucia meet again at Milan, and here, at the light of the cathedral that triumphs the life, represented in the play by a final rain, to seal the victory of the life over the plague.

The play deals with the themes treated in the original novel with attractions to the current events, through an imposing set, projections and special effects, and shows how the social context is not different from now,  since we find again the same issues of the human being: from the love to the power, from the justice to the faith.

In Florence takes place the comedy with “All his father” by Brignano

From 3rd o 5th February 2012 Brignano will be at Mandela Forum in Florence with a show dedicated to his father, recently dead, will give vent to his comedy telling about nowadays’ Italy. The new adventure of Brignano traces with a humorous tones, but also with moments of reflection, the events that have brought our country to become “a gentry whore”.

With the same irony will also recounts his relationships with friends and family, taking to extremes their qualities, vices and defects, without save himself.

The roman comic is enjoying an incredible success in everything he does: TV, theater and cinema contend him because with some brilliant speeches push up the ratings, and collects a sold-out after another.

With the new year starts the theater tour of Elio e le Storie Tese that will be at Teatro Verdi in Florence the 2th February 2012.

Born in Milano in the 80’s, Elio e le Storie Tese are made known to the general public especially in the 90’s with the participation at Sanremo, where came second with the song “La terra dei cachi” (Land of persimmons), that was much different from the classic themes of Sanremo, talking about problems with mafia, corruption and health in Italy.

Sanremo’s event was just one of many episodes of sarcasm and irreverence that characterized the group of Elio. Since the debut the Elii distinguish themselves for their humor and their sharp humor.

At the Teatro Verdi in Florence another great classic of Tchaikovsky: “Swan Lake”

Lago dei cigni Teatro Verdi FirenzeAfter  “The Nutcraker” the Teatro Verdi in Florence presents another ballet with the music of Tchaikovsky “Swan lake” on stage the 22th January 2012.

This is the first of 3 ballets of Tchaikovsky and the most famous. Ordered in 1875 to Tchaikovsky, was performed for the first time in Moscow in 1877 and it was much criticized.  It was withdrawn from the stage after few repeats also because the music was too revolutionary. Only in 1895, thanks to a new choreography it managed to achieve success.

Swan Lake will be presented in Florence by the Russian Classical Theatre and is divided into four acts and four scenes. Although there are many versions of the ballet, most ballet companies based their choreography and music on the revival of Marius Pepita and Lev Ivanov for the Imperial Ballet, staged for the first time on January 1895 in St. Petersburg.

It’s a romantic story with dramatic strain that tells about a prince (Siegfried) that falls for a girl (Odette), transformed into a swan for a spell.

The two lovers meet during the night at the swan lake, when Odette and the other swans take human form, and dance together.

Odette tells Siegfried that only a  promise of marriage made at the point of death will break the spell.

The next day the prince must choose his future wife, and so the magician that has inflicted the spell has made his daughter Odile identical to Odette. Siegfried mistakes her for Odette and proclaims to the court that he intends to make her his wife.
Soon after he discovered the deception, the prince runs to Odette, dying, and in an attempt to save her from the waters the two lovers are swallowed by the lake.

The Municipal Ballet of Kiev arrived in Florence with “The Nutcracker”

He arrived in Florence, for a grate event, the Municipal Ballet of Kiev that on 18th December 2011 will perform at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in one of the most famous and popular ballets of the theater scene: The Nutcracker by Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij.

To represent the ballet there will be two exceptional etoile as Natalia Matsak Nedak and Denys, estimated in all the world not only for their performance in “The Nutcracker” and winners of several international awards.

The Nutcracker, which will be held at the theater in Florence, is a fairy tale in two-act based on a story writed by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann and adapted by Alexandre Dumas because was  too cruel in its original version, and then resumed by the choreographer Marius Petita to make a play , with Čajkovskij’s musical composition.

The story is about a girl (Clara, played by Natalia Matsak) who receives a nutcracker shaped like a soldier during a Christmas party. At the end oh the party the girl goes to sleep and dreams of being at the party yet, but with a myriad of mice that try to steal the nutcracker who magically comes alive and face in combat mice annihilating and then becomes a prince (interpreted by Denys Nedak).

The Theatre of Rakogu arrives in Florence

For the third year, after the success of the 2009 and 2010, returns to Florence Ryuraku Sanyutei, one of the greatest interpreters of Rakogu comedy. The 10th of  November he will be to the Sala Vanni (Hall Vanni) in Florence, where he will present his new show consists of two pieces recited in italian.

The Rakugo is a special japanese theatrical genre consist in a comic monologue, in which the narrator tells a story sitting on a pillow in the center of the stage, using only a paper fan and a small rectangular towel.

The Master Sanyutei is one of the greatest artists of the Rakogu theater, much known and appreciated in Japan, is collecting great success about audiences and critics also abroad, where since years offers its performances.

In particular in the new show Sanyutei proposes various dialogues between characters, all interpreted by himself.

This show is an opportunity to meet and know  a typical theatrical genre of a different culture. Through the theater Rakogu, Master Sanyutei provides a special key to understanding the Japanese culture so, during the interval between the two pieces, he will hold a conference about theater Rakogu with demonstration of dressing of kimono’s male.

Furthermore, at the end of the show the Master Sanyutei will perform with the tamasudare Nankin, an ancient instrument typical of jugglers and street performers.

Antonio Albanese’s “Characters” at Teatro Verdi in Florence

At Teatro Verdi in Florence, on 27th – 30th October 2011, Antonio Albanese, great comedian and one of the most talented artists in Italy, will be on stage with the show “Characters”.

Albanese’s “Characters ” contains all the faces, the interpretations and nuances of the most popular characters created in his career as a comedian: the immigrant that can not fit in the North, the entrepreneur who works 16 hours a day, the sommelier that decant seraphically the wine, the political candidate few honest, the “optimist” visionary who lives in a perfect world, the tender “Epiphanius”  and his international dreams.

His characters are much deeper than it may seem, are, somehow, aspects of social alienation, full of tics, hyperactive and melancholic.

In fact, the show is presented like a mirror of reality, where Albanese will give voice to a variety of subjects characterized by tics, fears, complexes, reflections. Through them, will describe his vision of contemporary society, using a comic and irreverent mood.

In conclusion, an eclectic and colorful spectacle to which it is difficult to give up.
