Van Gogh Alive in Florence
It opened in these days in Florence an exhibition that will astonish the public due to the artist, the new idea and the location: Van Gogh Alive, a multimedia experience made by a beaming of more than 3,000 Van Gogh images at enormous scale that fills giant screens and walls, in an exclusive location: the desecrated church of Santo Stefano al Ponte (a few steps away from Ponte Vecchio).
It’s a new way to live and know art, fascinanting and educational: Van Gogh’s masterpieces take life in a vibrant symphony of light, colour and sound, combined and amplified to create what visitors are calling “an unforgettable multi-sensory experience”. Van Gogh Alive can transport visitors to another time and place, immersing them completely in the artists’ world, integrated in a very particular achitecture as that of Santo Stefano’s church.
This particular set-up has the aim to educate the visitors about Van Gogh’s body of work, forego all preconceived ideas of traditional museum visits and broaden the art exhibitions and museum audience to families and schools. The projection in a scale unseen before, will allow the visitors to be immersed in the artists work, rather than observe it and gives the opportunity to discover a new and closer vision of these masterpieces and appreciate the amazing technique and the peculiar, new use of colour used by this master.
The exhibition inspect the Van Gogh beginnings with his cold and timid colors and continue with warmer pieces of impressionist period painted in Paris and with the more luky period in Arles, where he painted his most famous mastepieces such as “The sunflowers” or “The night”. Besides these important pieces, the virtual track will also show the preparatory drafts, that originated paintings and masterpieces that contributed to do the history of art, not only of his century.
In order to better understand the content of his paintings it’s fundamental to know the artist’s complex personality and agony, for this reason it’s possible to see also letters that the painter loved to write to his dear ones and to the estimeed personalities of his time. Van Gogh tell about his job, his souces of inspiration, his lost fight against his madnest and his dour drama.
