IN THE GREEN OF PALAZZO VECCHIO WITH ELEONORA DI TOLEDO’S ORTICINI
Untill 25th September do not miss the chance to live the sixteenth atmosphere at Palazzo Vecchio.
The event Un giardino a Palazzo (A garden in the Palace) is primarily intended to recall the “orticini”, small green spaces which were set within the walls of the building to compensate the lack of a real garden or to indicate large terracotta or bronze pots in which to grow plants and flowers. The event, organized by the association MUS.E and Musei civici fiorentini, has as location the terrace of Saturn, on the 3rd floor of Palazzo Vecchio, named so for the ceiling’s paintings depicting the god Saturn.
The orticini in exhibition, previously wanted in the sixteenth century by Eleonora di Toledo wife of Cosimo I de ‘Medici, are the result of careful researches from archival, iconographic, historical and literary sources. The exibithed plants ranging from citrus to pomegranates, from vegetables to roses until fragrant herbs.
To spend an afternoon with the feel of the Medici court from 1500, the exhibition is open from 9 am to 11 pm every day, except on Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm. The entrance ticket will not be increased over the normal cost of the Palazzo Vecchio fee (10,00 € full price; € 8.00 (from 18-25 years) and free for children under 18) click here for more information.
During the 4 months of exposure, in the days of June 11th-18th and 10th-24th September at 3 pm, the terrace will be the protagonist of thematic tours, lectures & conversations and children workshops (for the detailed program and for the cost of the participation in these events, visit http://musefirenze.it/en/mostre/un-giardino-in-palazzo/.
