IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA: the masterpiece of Rossini in Florence
Il Barbiere di Siviglia with a libretto by Cesare Sterbini , will be the first Opera performance in the Nuovo Teatro dell’Opera in the Cascine Park of Florence.
Starting from July 15th in fact, the prestigious program of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino will be played the work of one of the greatest opera composers of the history, all enhanced by the lively direction of Josè Carlos Plaza.
The exaltation of disguise and equivocation, nightly serenades and famous songs make the work composed by Gioachino Rossini his most important work.
The premiere, whose original titles was “Almaviva, or the Useless Precaution” was staged on 20 February at the Teatro Argentina in Rome in 1816 and it was marked by resounding disastrous failure “driven” by the supporters of Giovanni Paisiello, who was the first to compose the opera in the 1782.
The following performances of the reinvention of Rossini fully redeemed the fiasco of the opening night, clouding the previous representation by Paisiello, becoming one of the most known and frequently performed in theatres all over the world and allowing Rossini to estabilish himself permanently to the attention of the European music scene.
