Artusi Week in Florence
This year occurs the centenary of the death of Pellegrino Artusi, known in Italy and around the world as the father of modern Italian cuisine and author of the famous book “La scienza in cucina e l’arte del mangiar bene” (The science of cooking and the art of eating well). Published for the first time in 1891 came to the 130th edition and has also contributed to the unification of the language, as well as gastronomic.
During the celebrations for the centenary of the death, the town of Florence, where Artusi lived for 60 years, together with the Tuscany Region, has decided to make a tribute to his figure with various initiatives that have been registered throughout 2011.
The last appointment of this celebrations will be held in Florence with the “Artusi Week”, from 5th to 13th November, during which will be organized food and wine initiatives dedicated to him. In collaboration with hotels and associations will be organized guided tours to museums to the discovery of “Tavole imbandite” (dinner tables) and cooking classes dedicated to the great master of the kitchen. On this occasion you will be able to taste dishes inspired by the work of Pellegrino Artusi, proposed by many restaurants of Florence, participate to wine tasting, attend a cooking class for women, and more other initiatives. There will also be workshops and a theater show dedicated to the figure of Artusi.
