This year the Fair of Craft is renewed!
On 24th April the 83° International Handicrafts Trade (MIDA) comes back at Fortezza da Basso in Florence. Also this year about 60 between the main master florentine craftsmen exhibit their own creations and make short illustrations on how they work and about the techniques they use.
One of the partecipating master craftsmen is Tommaso Pestelli, heir of Edoardo Pestelli – the jeweler of the most important royal families in the early ‘900s – author of splendid jewels and ornamental sculptures. There are also young artists, such as Kyoko Morita, craft of signed leather
bags with the brand of florentine leather Merlo Bags, and Moleria Locchi, located in the Oltrarno from the end of the ‘800s to create masterpieces of glass and crystal according to the old techniques of swelling, grinding, engraving… and many more artists!
This year there are also a lot of news, including two exhibitions within the Fair itself: Tailor-made Florence: Wunderkammer and The seven wonders of Tuscany, to celebrate the anniversary of the 500th years from the death of the famous Leonardo da Vinci.
Tailor-made Florence: Wunderkammer, inspired to Leonardo, is the centre of the Fair with six real “rooms of wonders” (Wunderkammer), divided by themes (home décor, jewelry, leather, tailoring, accessories and perfumes) and decorated with scenes inspired by the Platonic solids that host the works of craftsmen.
The seven wonders of Tuscany, instead is the exhibition dedicated to the raw materials that are used by the artisans to give life to their creations: alabaster, ceramics, cutlery, bronze, marble, gold and tobacco.
You can visit the individual pavilion from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. by buying tickets, while from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the entrance is free.
Not only! On the occasion of the MIDA 2019, Firenze Fiera decides to repeat six rounds of guided visits at the Fortezza da Basso reserved to the visitors of the Fair, on Sunday 28th (10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) and on Monday 29th (03:00 p.m., 04:00 p.m. and 05:00 p.m.). The itineraries are free entry, booking required.
