SPRING’S SNEAK PEEK
Dismantled the Christmas tree, put in the attic lights and decorations and, reluctantly, dusted the gym subscription, it is easy for the most, let melancholy take over the long winter months ahead.
For this reason, like the ants of La Fointaine, we have already started to try to identify the most tasty events planned for Spring on a Florence that, silently, is preparing to blossom.
In the city, from March 9th to July 14th, the Renaissance will be in the air like never before. In this time frame the guest par exellence will be Andrea Verrocchio. His works, together with those of artists such as Pietro Perugino, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Leonardo da Vinci of whom Verrocchio was the famous master will be on show at Palazzo Strozzi. For the first time, the exhibition collects extraordinary masterpieces that celebrate the figure of an artist who as a painter, sculptor, goldsmith and draftsman has been a brilliant interpreter of the values of the Medici Florentine Family and whose impact has influenced an entire generation of masters of the Fifteenth Century in Italy and in Europe. Here for more.
Tradition is also the cornerstone on which the Florentine Easter rested. If you’ve never spent the most famous Sunday of the year in the Tuscan capital you can not really miss the explosion of the cart. The brindellone – a pyrotechnical tower positioned on the cart – is pulled by a pair of oxen through the streets of the historic center of Florence and positioned between the baptistery and the cathedral. At the peak of the ceremony, the archbishop lights a dove-shaped rocket from the altar of the cathedral, which, through a cord mechanism, runs through the central nave of the church and reaches the wagon outside, causing it to explode. But words are not enough to describe a ritual permeated with history, religion and folklore…so come to experience it and discover it !!
Even for sports lovers there will be no lack of events for a mens sana in corpore sano (a healthy mind in a healthy body). From April 12th to 14th will be held the “Gran Fondo Firenze” and the “Florence Bike Festival“, two-wheeled events aimed at spreading cycling culture and conscious movement. On April 15th will be the runners to be singled out with “Vivicittà Half Marathon” a sporting event open to all, framed by the striking artistic-cultural context of our city.
For those who, between a church and a museum, like to enjoy a good glass of wine or a dish full of classic Tuscan products in a postcard landscape, there are many trips that can be done having as a base Florence. So do not miss the typical features of the Chianti area or the country festivals (have you ever heard about sagra?), based on delicacies of every kind, that will be held in many Tuscan villages.
For dance lovers, the most seductive appointment of the year is from April 25th to 28th with the “Tango Festival“. For a few days, in the city, it will be possible to enjoy a very particular form of beauty: a 360° multifaceted mix and union of different cultures and arts.
The seventeenth edition will see more than 27 hours of dancing between afternoons and evenings with Italian and foreign DJs distributed in 5 city milongas, 6 closed thematic seminars with international masters, guests from all over Italy and many other countries and an expo of shoes and clothes for people frome the field. Here for more.
