The Dragon Boat Festival in Florence for the battle against breast cancer
For the first time in Europe and in Italy from 6 to 8 July the Dragon Boat Festival is a non-competitive sporting event celebrated every four years since 2005 thanks to the International Breast Cancer initiative Paddler’s Commision sees women working for cancer involved to carry out this discipline for post-operative rehabilitation purposes. After being hosted in the United States, Canada and Australia this year is the turn of Florence and the waters of the Arno.
The event is organized by the Association “Firenze in Rosa Onlus” with the contribution of the Municipality and the Region by already registering the enrollment record with no less than 129 participating teams from 17 countries and from all continents. The Dragon Boat takes place on boats of oriental origin with a head and a dragon’s tail representing one of the rehabilitative typologies carried out by women and men operated from an intuition of the Canadian physician Don Mckenzie.
For the entire duration of the event, Florence will become pink, also involving the commercial activities of the city and the park of the farmhouses that will host workshops and social events for the occasion. An event that focuses on teamwork, helps to give courage to better face a tough test like that of the disease and fight the breast cancer.
