The Mattioli’s timeless “Pinocchio” in Florence
Saturday January 17th at 4.00 pm at Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale of Florence (Galileo’s Room) the exhibition will open “Il Pinocchio di Leo Mattioli: una modernità senza tempo” (Leo Mattioli’s Pinocchio: a timeless modernity).
The wind orchestra “Fiesole Harmonie”, conducted by Master Guido Corti, will liven up the opening, playing original soundtraks dedicated to Pinocchio.
30 original tables painted by tempera will be exhibited in protected cases, with the excerpts from Pinocchio’s novel. More boards, standing on easels, thanks to text and images will complete Mattioli’s artistic overview and personality. It will be possible to admire the art technique and history of Mattioli’s Pinocchio and the preparatory sketches for an original unpublished Pinocchio.
Along the corridor, close to the Galileo’s Room, different editions of Collodi’s novel (conserved by the Central National Library of Florence) will be exhibited. In the library hall 2 big cartoon boards will welcome the visitors and a big Pinocchio’s silhouette will help the visitors to follow the path.
This cultural event is organized by the National Library of Florence in occasion of new publishing of “Pinocchio’s Adventures” illustrated by Leonardo Mattioli, one of historical florentine illustrators that worked from 50’s to 90’s. Quite 60 years have passed, since the very young illustrator Mattioli published his Pinocchio with the editor Vallecchi: a national edition that was really important, because it was promoted by the “Comitato per le onoranze a Carlo Lorenzini”, an association that in the future become “Fondazione Collodi”.
