The expected 1900’s Museum finally opens. 300 works on display at the old convent of Leopoldine in Santa Maria Novella
Florence is the “cradle of the Renaissance,” but finally opens the new Museum of the 1900s. The critic Charles Ragghianti had the idea for this museum, an insight that is now a reality.
The location for this new experience is in the former Leopoldine convent and hospital overlooking the large square of Santa Maria Novella is the union of the ancient history of the city of Florence and the new advances with modern art. Exposure will include 800 square meters of exhibition space plus several other rooms and spaces on various floors. The official opening is June 24, with free admission until 22.00.
The new museum will host 2300 works that belong to the city collected over the years by members of the Regione Toscana and thanks to the donations of many artists have been collected many masterpiecesand; the museum includes important artists from the 20th Century such as De Chirico, Sironi, Carrà, Morandi, Martini, Sassu, Guttridge, Barni, Rinaldi, Mannucci, Salvatori, Loffredo, Berti, Farulli, Magnelli and De Pisis. Modern multi-media museum conveniences are promised.
Today there are only 300 masterpieces displayed in the museum, a way to tell the Italian art of the twentieth century.
