La Scultura e le arti a Firenze 1400-1460”, a connection between Italy and France which wants to illustrate, with thematic areas, the genesis of the artistic movement born in Florence, the “Cradle of Renaissance”, especially through sculpture.
The first thematic area is dedicated to rediscover of Ancient during the rebirth between ‘200 and ‘300, from Nicola Pisano and Arnolfo and their successors, and then the assimilation of expressive richness in Gothic architecture: The sacrifice of Isaac by Lorenzo Ghilberti and Filippo Brunelleschi and the model of Brunelleschi’s Dome, which are key characteristics of this movement. This unique exhibition continues with political successes of Florentine Republic, economic richness and the resulting peace, represented by public monumental sculpture (by Donatello, Ghilberti, Nanni di Banco, Michelozzo), able to deeply affect painters as Masaccio, Paolo Uccello, Andrea del Castagno and Filippo Lippi. This period express and glorify intellectual and spiritual mood of the city, starting new rules in sculpture which allow the circulation of a new taste for beauty.
