The seventh Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence

The Fortezza da Basso in Florence will host the seventh edition of the Biennial of Contemporary Art from 3th to 11th December 2011.

The Biennial of Florence confirms himself  like showcase of excellence in the contemporary art world, hosting over 600 artists from 70 different countries with more than 2500 works, sculpture, graphics, mixed media, installations, photography and digital art.

The event will focus not only on the rooms of the Fortezza da Basso, but will also involve schools, citizens, and the territory around Florence. In fact, 10 high schools, academies of art and the University are working to reinterpret the chairs, donated by Ikea, in a contemporary key and will parade, during the days of the Biennial, along Florence’s streets.

During the event will be awarded the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Awards  to José Luis Cuevas, painter, sculptor, writer and politician, considered one of the greatest Mexican artists of the XX and XXI century and to Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, one of the most renowned designers of all  time with her creation inspired by art, that in this occasion will celebrate its thirtieth year in business with a retrospective of 40 dresses.

Florence Marathon: a Marathon between Art and Culture

Come back in Florence the 28th edition of the Florence Marathon: the appointment is set for the 27th November 2011. The classic international road race has seen an exponential growth in the number of members, earning the second place among the Italian marathons, behind only that of Rome.

It is not just a sporting event, but a true cultural event that has become a “must” for runners from around the world that the last year showed a record of members, with 10.200 participants.

Participants of Florence Marathon will run for 42 kilometers and 195 meters wrapped in centuries of art, history and culture. The race will also be followed live on TV on Raisport1 that since last 7 years accompanies the event.

The path will move to the landscapes and the most beautiful monuments of Florence that made it famous throughout the world such as Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio and will end in another fascinating square like Santa Croce.

The Theatre of Rakogu arrives in Florence

For the third year, after the success of the 2009 and 2010, returns to Florence Ryuraku Sanyutei, one of the greatest interpreters of Rakogu comedy. The 10th of  November he will be to the Sala Vanni (Hall Vanni) in Florence, where he will present his new show consists of two pieces recited in italian.

The Rakugo is a special japanese theatrical genre consist in a comic monologue, in which the narrator tells a story sitting on a pillow in the center of the stage, using only a paper fan and a small rectangular towel.

The Master Sanyutei is one of the greatest artists of the Rakogu theater, much known and appreciated in Japan, is collecting great success about audiences and critics also abroad, where since years offers its performances.

In particular in the new show Sanyutei proposes various dialogues between characters, all interpreted by himself.

This show is an opportunity to meet and know  a typical theatrical genre of a different culture. Through the theater Rakogu, Master Sanyutei provides a special key to understanding the Japanese culture so, during the interval between the two pieces, he will hold a conference about theater Rakogu with demonstration of dressing of kimono’s male.

Furthermore, at the end of the show the Master Sanyutei will perform with the tamasudare Nankin, an ancient instrument typical of jugglers and street performers.
