Festival del Viaggio 2011 FirenzeFrom 8th to 10th September 2011 comes back to Florence, the sixth edition of  Travel Festival, the first Italian event about the theme of multidisciplinary travel.

The Festival of  Travel, directed by the writer Alessandro Agostinelli, backs in the beautiful Florence to tell the many philosophies and practices of travel, for tourism or work, with three days full of meetings, readings, exhibitions and performances, all free entry.

Among the major events and events of the Festival Travel:

  • A photo contest dedicated to the Italian honeymoons, organized in collaboration with L’Espresso; to participate just send a photo of your “honeymoon” accompanied by a comment of 333 characters.
  • The conference “Etruscans and smartphones”, which will present the latest applications designed by some Etruscan museums in the region of  Tuscany.
  • The presentation of the first illustrated editions of Emilio Salgari pirates’ novels, in collaboration with the National Central Library of Florence, and a path through the last decade Italian drawings and cartoons of Sergio Staino.
  • Video-interview called “The first trip”, with Francesco Guccini, Ezio Mauro, Luis Sepulveda, Pino Cacucci, Alexander Bergonzoni, Paul Poli and others.

Among the events in calendar there are also reported national films previews of  Womb, with Eva Green, and two documentaries, respectively dedicated to the Gnawa music of Morocco and the Iranian street artist Ramin Saravi.

Ales De Grassi in Concert at Florence

Alex De Grassi a FirenzeOn 8th September 2011 Alex De Grassi, one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world, will be in concert at Six Bars Jail Folk Club of Florence (21,30).

Born in Japan and raised in California, Alex de Grassi as a boy absorbs many influences, from classic rock and blues in the sixties folk revival of fingerstyle guitarists like Bert Jansch and John Renbourn and American innovators of the genre such as John Fahey and Leo Kottke.

With this vast musical background and his incredible technique Alex de Grassi is able to create a personal sound very orchestrated playing together, with a simple acoustic guitar melodies, intricate bass lines, harmonies, rhythms and cross rhythms.

Alex has alternated over the years solo guitar album with works based on complex orchestrations that involve the use of varied instrumentation. The latest CD is “Now and then, folk songs of the 21st century” great job in a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

The Treasure of the Kremlin in Florence

The approximately 150 works on display present the unique development of one of the most important treasures of Europe: the Kremlin Armory, the richest collection of the oldest Russian museum that collects real treasures, objects of daily use and the court ceremonial of the biggest names associated with the Tsar of Russia through several centuries of history.

From the twelfth to the eighteenth century, the Armory was in fact the “treasure room”, full of precious objects: jewelry, armor, embroidery from Byzantine, Russian, Persian, Turkish and European Union, helped with the pomp of the court of the Tsars. When, in the eighteenth century, the Court moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg, the Armory was designed to accommodate items related to the ceremony of coronation robes and sumptuous stately.

The exhibition includes a selection of 19 works from the Medici collections, arrived in Florence as a valuable diplomatic gifts to the tsars of Russia Grand Duke of Tuscany, to witness the profound intercultural relations between the two courts at the end of the sixteenth century until the early decades of the eighteenth century.

Lorenzo Bartolini exhibition in Florence

The exhibition is inspired by the extraordinary group of plaster models stored in Accademia Gallery and brings the highest level of quality Bartolini’s production, highlighting the wealth of artistic interests ranging on various topics ranging from those of an intimate nature and sentimental, to the monumental themes, in which, not infrequently, reveals his political participant in the historical events of his time.

Through the works on display are highlighted the most important commissions of sculptures, shown alongside those of decorative art produced by his studio, also in great demand by the protagonists of the cosmopolitan society that animated the cultural life of Florence, a must on the Grand Tour.
